Toxic Spill Burns
We all know liquid gasoline is
flammable; however, its vapors alone are also highly flammable. Whenever gasoline is released
from a container, whether poured into another container or pumped into up your vehicle’s gas tank,
gasoline vapors are released. Any type of electric charge, static electricity, flame, spark, or
other direct or indirect fume ignition can cause these vapors into a full-blown fire event. This
can result in severe burns.
There
are industry
standards for gasoline containers, as well as the recently enacted
Children’s
Gasoline Burns Prevention Act (effective January 2009), which requires child
resistant gasoline containers.
Gas Spills Burn Injury and
Death
There are many examples of gas
spills resulting in fires and burn injuries:
- Gasoline containers which leak or
fail
- Faulty gas lines
- Industrial Plant
explosions
- Compressed flammable gasses, such as
hydrogen, petroleum, gasoline, methane, natural gas
- Construction
Accidents
- defective
products
Burns resulting from gasoline
spills or other toxic substance spills can result in fuel-fed fires or chemical burns, which can
lead to severe, permanent, debilitating injuries or even death.
