ADD Drug Injury and ADHD Drug Injury

There are several drugs and drug combinations prescribed for children diagnosed as having Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). These are very potent prescription drugs which can result in serious drug injury. 
 
  • Adderall 
    • is a widely prescribed drug for ADHD. It has been cited as having side effects including suicidal thoughts, aggression, psychotic behavior and hallucinations. 
    • Adderall has also been also associated with serious cardiovascular side effects including cardiac arrhythmia, tachycardia, chest pain and hypertension. 
  • Ritalin 
    • is believed to be the most widely prescribed drug for ADHD. It has been cited as having side effects including suicidal thoughts, aggression, psychotic behavior and hallucinations. 
    • Ritalin has also been also associated with serious cardiovascular side effects including cardiac arrhythmia, tachycardia, chest pain and hypertension. 
    • At least one study has suggested that users of Ritalin may be at increased risk of a significant increase in their level of chromosome abnormalities, occurrences which are associated with increased cancer risk and other adverse health effects. 
  • Concerta 
    • is another popular drug marketed for, and prescribed to treat, consumers diagnosed with ADHD. 
    • In addition to concerns about heart risks, Concerta has been linked to psychiatric side effects, including suicidal thoughts, aggression, psychotic behavior and hallucinations. 
  • Straterra 
    • has been linked to psychiatric side effects, including suicidal thoughts, aggression, psychotic behavior and hallucinations. 
    • Straterra has also been associated with permanent liver damages – including acute liver failure requiring liver transplant. 
ADHD Drug Injury 
 
While these prescription ADHD drugs contain some warnings, they are not exhaustive, and the current warning labels may downplay the seriousness of the side effects. 

Also, millions of dollars are spent by the big pharmaceutical companies on marketing:
  • Direct-to-consumer advertising aggressively market these ADHD drugs to concerned parents and health professionals 
  • Pharmaceutical sales representatives aggressively market prescription drugs to doctors – the gatekeepers of prescription drug sales.
