Terbutaline is an FDA approved asthma medication that is commonly used to treat preterm labor as "off-label" use (meaning that the terbutaline drug was not approved for such use by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA)).  Terbutaline is also sold under brand names Brethine and Bricanyl.

Some studies have indicated Terbutaline use during pregnancy and an increased risk of brain damage, cognitive deficits, and developmental problems in the baby.
