Tips for Insurance
Claims
In dealing with an insurance company, it is critical to remember: get everything in
writing.
Keep records of the insurance company's decision, your claim, and any statements you've
made.
- If you have a valid claim, then don't give up. The insurance company can be
creative when it comes to denying a claim, so there may be times when it seems to have a
good reason for denying your claim. Don't give up.
- Courts favor interpretations which require payment of benefits rather than denial of
claims.
Keep gathering information and maintain lines of communication.
- Obtain the names of your claims adjuster, their supervisor, and their supervisor, if
necessary. Don't be shy or too embarrassed or too timid to ask for this information.
- Make sure everything you send to the insurance company is diplomatic: be polite, and
be professional.
-
- Even a complaint letter can say everything you want it to say without being
crude and vulgar.
- you attract more bees with honey . . .
- Work your way up the chain of command from the adjuster
-
- if no action, then to the adjuster and the supervisor
- if no action, then to the adjuster, the supervisor, and the supervisor's
supervisor
- in every case inform all parties who's been courtesy copies (CC'd) on the
communication.
