Scaffolding Accident
Lawyer
Scaffolds are temporary platforms that allow work to be done above ground level. They can be
suspended from above or supported from below. Approximately 10,000 construction-related injuries
that occur each year are scaffolding accidents.
Most scaffolding accidents are caused by defective scaffolding equipment. The equipment was
defective primarily due to improper assembly and maintenance. Planking may give way or objects may
fall off and hit a worker below.
Despite strict Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), as well as construction
industry standards, scaffolding manufacturer standards, and related regulations regarding the
proper construction and usage of scaffolds, some components are sometimes omitted to save
money.
Scaffold components most often missing include:
- base plates and mud sills
- scaffold ties
- side brackets
- guard railing
- toe boards
- work platform decking
- fastening (Lock) Pins
