For Potential Clients Who Have a Personal Injury Claim
Outside Florida, But Want to Consider Hiring Us
It is not unusual for clients to contact us from throughout the United States seeking
representation. The good news is that we can represent clients outside Florida, as we work with local counsel
in your locale to represent your interests. This is a fairly common practice.
How does it work?
Well, after consulting with you, we contact local counsel whom we know or believe will be an asset and team
member to move your important case forward. If the case is proceeding as a lawsuit, then we may formally join
the prosecution of that civil case as "pro hac vice" counsel.
Joint Prosecution | Pro Hac Vice
Pro Hac Vice is latin for "for this occassion." In the legal world, it means that we ask your local court
for permission to appear as your lawyer (in conjunction with local counsel) for your case, without having to be
formally admitted to your State's Bar. Think of it as a limited license to practice law in your State on your
behalf.
These Motions are quite common, and routinely granted, as they are a recognized exception to formal bar
admission rules. Once your case is over, then so is our "temporary" admission to represent you
there.
For cases involving catastrophic injury or wrongful death, we are happy to undertake this effort for you.
Case Referral
In other instances, after consulting with you, we may opt to refer your case to another lawyer in your State
without seeking admission pro hac vice. In such a case, we remain our counsel, but limit our involvement to
assisting local counsel as needed and not in formal court action.
Do I have to pay Two or More Attorney's Fees?
No. Only one attorney's fee is charged to the client from a monetary recovery. Local counsel and our
firm then divide that single attorney's fee based upon the lawyers' agreement (which requires your
approval) and in accordance with applicable Bar rules.
The bottom line: you pay the same fee from the money recovery you would pay anyway, but get 2 lawyers
for the price of one.
